Mobile Alabama — Sunshine in the South

Mobile, Alabama is quickly becoming the showplace of the South. Mobile has it all, from history and beauty to recreation and entertainment. Good food, great hospitality, and a wide variety of interesting things to do make Mobile your next vacation spot or maybe even the place you want to settle in and call home.

Beauty

If you’re looking for a beautiful place to visit, you’ll want to be sure and see Bellingrath Gardens.  Bellingrath started out as a fishing camp so Walter Bellingrath would have a place to go on the weekends. Walter loved the place so much that he moved his whole family out there for good and continue to improve the grounds until they became the showplace that they are now. The Bellingrath home was once profiled on A&E’s American Castles.  The home is full of priceless collectibles, irreplaceable furniture, and countless beautiful antiques. A tour of the home is truly a window to the world of the privileged South.  Bellingrath’s grounds include formal gardens, a Rose Garden, a butterfly garden, and plants that bloom year-round. There is also a beautiful lake, a Riverwalk, and a boardwalk where you may encounter any of the innumerable small wildlife creatures that dot the landscape.

History

Historically, Mobile, Alabama has much to offer.  In quaint downtown Mobile you can get started with an overview of the area provided by the Museum of Mobile. There’s a lovely antebellum home open for tours in midtown, The Oakleigh Historic Complex.  There you will also find a history of Mardi Gras, which began in Mobile and not New Orleans – a fact that locals will be delighted to explain.  And for an in-depth offering of information about African-American History, The National African American Archives Museum is the place to see.  And don’t forget to visit the USS Alabama while you are here.

Sports

Are you a golfer? Then you should know that Golf Digest named Mobile one of the top 10 golf value destinations in the US. There’s something for everybody in one of the many challenging courses in the Mobile area. Golfers may choose from Rock Creek, Magnolia Grove, Cypress Bend, or the Peninsula Golf Club, with links designed by Earl Stone.

Mobile is obviously a fisherman’s paradise and a boaters dream. One can cruise the inland waterways or fish in the Gulf of Mexico. You might even be lucky enough to be around for an Eastern Shore Jubilee, but that’s not really fishing. That’s just scooping them up.  Anyway, there are many more great activities for you to indulge in if you tire of fishing.

Food

After all this fun you can enjoy some of the best restaurants in the country. There is an unending supply of wonderful food at your fingertips on the Gulf Coast. Unbelievable local seafood, tasty Southern barbecue, and down-home Southern cooking will keep you coming back year after year.  Good food, well-prepared, at a great price.  You’ll find it true when dining out in Mobile.

All in all, Mobile, Alabama is a great place to be. Come and see us soon.
