Quality Sod
A quality yard depends on quality sod. Sod decides the type of grass you have as your lawn. Many people think that grass is just grass, but with respect to sod, you have a variety of possibilities. Sods can range in color from a light, vibrant green to a rich dark green. The density and thickness, maintenance and feel are aspects when deciding on a turf type.
Lawn Lines
“Lawn lines” are another factor in the classic look of your neighbor’s glorious grass. How do some lawns have noticable and well-kept lines and others barely have any at all? There is a simple solution you can employ to achieve this classic result. Select a tree or another object a distance away to become your focal point. Cut the grass in a straight line in the direction of that point and then straight back and forth from that row on. If you trim the grass with this accuracy, the pressure of the mower on the lines will achieve this look. You could even go one step further and mow the lines diagonally across to create a different look.
Fertilizer and Aeration
Like all home projects, healthy grass takes work. Whenever you expect to have a beautiful landscape, you should fertilize your grass by using a quality fertilizer starting in March through June. After that time, you need to use a herbicide on your lawn to reduce many weeds that may consume water and food from the grass. Right from July to September, you’ll want to give your grass a regular summer fertilizer. Then, from September through February, you’ll use a winter fertilizer which is full of iron to feed and guard your lawn over the winter months.
Apart from fertilizing your lawn types, throughout the spring and fall, you should aerate your lawn. Aeration easily disturbs the thatch buildup from the top of the grass. This will allow air-flow and intense food to reach the lower parts of the grass roots.
