How to Get Your Home Ready Before Listing It for Sale

How to Get Your Home Ready Before Listing It for Sale

When you are selling your home and your Real Estate Agent is coming to list it for sale, you should be properly ready. Agents prefer it if the home is in its best condition when they arrive to take photographs and sign the listing agreement. So you need to be sure that your home is in tip-top condition when the agent arrives from inside and outside. This means you need to be sure your lawn is mowed before the agent comes and everything is perfect to put the right impression.

You need to schedule a meeting time when you can make sure you will be able to keep things perfect. Like if your gardener comes on Tuesday then you should schedule the agent on Wednesday to make sure it is perfect before he sees it.

Make the Best First Impression on Your Agent

You need to make the best first impression and that comes from the outer look of your house. You need to do some basic fixing of the front of your house. Here are some things that you can do to make it look better.

·    Properly trim bushes and trees in front of the windows.

·    Cut all dead branches from the trees to make it look all green and attractive.

·    Make sure sidewalks and driveway are properly clean.

·    Don’t park the car in front of the house or driveway, park it in the garage or down the street.

·    Remove all the trash cans from the front and put them on the side yard.

·    Make sure the garage door is closed.

Along with all the cleaning you can also add a few pots with some flowers in front of the door to make it more attractive.

When all this is done, when your agent will arrive, the agent will have a feeling that you were expecting him/her and you are interested in selling your house.

If you won’t do any of these things, your agent will think you don’t care even if you do care. He will not say this, but trust me it will be noticed.

Get Things Right inside the Home

Of course, cleaning the house will be the simplest answer, but, the definition of cleaning is different for everyone. You can just hide things while the agent takes photos to make it look all clean. Here are the minimum things you should do:

·    Kitchen counters should be completely clean.

·    Clean the outer side of fridge from all the magnets and artwork of your kids.

·    Make the beds.

·    Take off all the photos from the walls, which are personal.

·    Sweep/vacuum the floors.

·    Pick up all toys, clothes and other such items from the floor and hide them in a closet.

If you have too much stuff, then make sure all of it is located in a single room or garage and the agent will avoid taking pictures of that specific area.

Try to have least furniture inside the house, the less furniture you have, the more attractive the house will look. You can move out some of the furniture if you can but make sure you do it before the agent comes.
