Cloned Plants and Hydroponics Systems

Cloning is not a modern technique and does not necessarily require a state-of-the-art laboratory. It does not even require advanced degree in biology. Even non-scientists who have very little formal education can successfully perform cloning with ease. Farmers and gardeners have been doing it for thousands of years since agriculture was invented. It is amazing to note that cloning has been occurring in nature for several billions of years. Simply put, it is a process whereby new generations of the same organisms are derived from an original older source, with completely intact and exact genetic codes. Cloned organisms have the same sets of genes as their parents.

Cloning plants is relatively easy compared to cloning animals. Given the right conditions, fully developed plant parts can be tricked into undifferentiated state and develop into new plants with the same genetic information. Multiple cloning can also be done by using the undifferentiated cells that are found on root tips. However, other vegetative and fully mature parts such as stems may also be used for this purpose. Cutting a callus from a plant and directly planting it on the soil or any growth media is the simplest way to clone a plant. Many species of plants such as cassava can easily be cloned by cutting their stems and planting them directly in the ground. Simply wait for a few days or weeks. Newly formed but genetically identical plants will eventually grow.

Not all species and varieties of plants, however, can easily be cloned. Some species of plants require high-tech and specialized methods for them to be cloned successfully. This is especially true for plants that are considered to have high agricultural and horticultural value. Some of the most desirable plants for cloning are those that have high crop yields, high resistance to disease, have excellent aesthetic value and very rare. Some of the highly priced plants are very rare and do not easily reproduce. Oftentimes, the most cost-effective and efficient way to reproduce these plants is through cloning. Using hydroponic systems are typically the best cultivation method for reproducing cloned plants.

TIP! While gardening you must make sure your knees are protected. For most people, bending over while gardening is too difficult.

Using hydroponic systems is the ideal way of cultivating plants indoor. Hydroponic systems allow for the precise amount of nutrients, light, hormones and water that is needed by cloned plants. Some varieties of plants require very meticulous care in order for them to develop. Another main advantage of hydroponic systems is that they can be set up in such a way that the growth media can be made sterile, preventing plant infections. The stages of growth and development can easily be controlled and monitored by using hydroponic systems. A hydroponic system is also cost-effective in terms of re-circulating water and preventing nutrients from being wasted.
